On April 8, 2024, millions of North Americans will enjoy the view of a spectacular total solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the sun and Earth’s orbits, creating an eclipse of Earth’s view of the sun. For up to 4 minutes and 30 seconds, the Moon’s shadow will bring darkness to the daytime.
The path of this particular eclipse will cross the United States from approximately 2:27 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. Eastern time. For those in its path, the sky will darken for several minutes and the air will get colder.
Most of Michigan will see somewhere between 90 to 99% coverage of the sun, though it won't be visible to the naked eye. To view this phenomenon, all spectators will need special eclipse glasses, and as a result, St. Matthew has you covered!
Please join us on April 8th, when students will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m. to attend an outdoor science lesson led by our very own Science teacher, Mr. Topel. With the assistance of our portable sound system, Mr. Topel will explain to our students and guests the components of a solar eclipse. Each student (and parent who wishes to attend) will be given a pair of ISO approved eclipse glasses to view the progress of the eclipse. At 3:30 p.m., students will be dismissed to cars for our normal 3:35 dismissal process.

In a similar fashion, as the sun radiates light, we as Christians are called to radiate and shine the light of Jesus. However, just as during a solar eclipse the moon interrupts the view between the sun and the earth and causes a shadow, sinful behaviors such as jealousy, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, etc. can block the light of Jesus from shining brightly in our lives.
Praise God that as a result of the Easter victory that we just celebrated, through Jesus, our sins are forgiven, and with God's help, we can address these sinful behaviors and thus allow the love of the "SON" to radiate more brightly.
He is Risen... He is Risen Indeed!
