St. Matthew Lutheran School in Walled Lake held their seventh annual Turkey Trot, entitled “Help Others Step Closer to Jesus”, last month. The Turkey Trot is designed to be a student-led outreach event intended to help those in need. Proceeds from the event benefited the NOAH Project, a warming shelter for the homeless based in Detroit, and Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that distributes shoes to those in need. The Turkey Trot, which started with a group of students that wanted to do something significant to help those in need, has become an annual event for the student council at St. Matthew. Each year, students and staff select a different cause to support. They have previously raised funds to support victims of natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy and missionary work in Honduras.
